Center For Supply Chain Research Honored With Logistics Award
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (August 3, 2006)—The Center for Supply Chain Research at Penn State's Smeal College of Business has been named the 2006 institutional recipient of the Eccles Medal by the Executive Board of Directors of the International Society of Logistics (SOLE).
This is the second time the medal has been associated with the Center for Supply Chain Research. In 2004, John Coyle, founder of the Center and professor emeritus of business administration, was named the individual medal recipient.
SOLE presents the Eccles Medal annually to recognize outstanding achievements in the development or administration of logistics education. It is named in honor of the late Admiral Henry Eccles, one of the most highly respected logisticians of the 20th Century.
The Center for Supply Chain Research was founded in 1989 and has since become one of the nation's leading institutes dedicated to supply chain management research and education. Its faculty and affiliate members encompass a broad range of disciplines including business logistics, management science, operations management, business law, geography, agricultural economics, and industrial engineering.
In 2005, Supply Chain Management Review ranked Smeal as the top college for supply chain management, according to a survey of academics and practitioners.
SOLE is a nonprofit international professional society comprised of individuals organized to enhance the art and science of logistics technology, education, and management. There are more than 90 SOLE chapters in 50 countries around the world. Chapters conduct workshops with the purpose of providing its members opportunities to advance professionally.
