Smaller Companies And The Global Economy: Smeal To Host Symposium

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (August 26, 2005)—The Smeal College of Business will host a symposium to explore the international business strategies of small to medium-sized companies that are thriving in today's global economy.

Senior executives from U.S. and Canadian companies and a representative from the Small Business Administration will discuss how small to medium-sized companies are succeeding in the global marketplace at this year's Third Klein Symposium on October 14, 2005. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel on Penn State's University Park Campus.

Markos Tambakeras, chairman, president and CEO of Kennametal Inc., a leading global supplier of tooling, engineered components, and advanced materials consumed in production processes, will deliver the keynote address.

This year's session will focus on the challenges and opportunities posed by the international marketplace and how small to medium-sized companies are finding success in the global market.

The Third Klein Symposium is named for Robert and Judith Klein, longtime friends of Penn State and endowers of the Robert and Judith Klein Professorship of Management in the Smeal College of Business. Gerald Susman, associate dean for research and symposium organizer, currently holds the Klein Professorship. Susman will deliver the Symposium's introductory remarks at 9:00 a.m.
