National Press Club To Be The Site For Penn State Conference On Technology's Role On Accelerating Global Commerce

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The National Press Club in Washington, D.C., will be the site for the Accelerating Global Commerce Through Technology and Policy Conference , which is co-sponsored by two Penn State research centers. The conference addresses the technology sector's rebound and economic recovery, and keynote speeches are scheduled from Thomas Leary, Commissioner, Federal Trade Commission; Irving Wladawsky-Berger, Vice President, IBM; Elliot Maxwell, Director of Internet Programs, Aspen Institute; and Mark Forman, Associate Director of Information Technology and E-government, The Office of Management and Budget.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m., September 20, 2002. The Penn State Smeal College of Business' eBusiness Research Center and the Penn State Institute for Information Policy are presenting it. The conference features speakers from business, government, and higher education who are gathering to address the global economic recovery and its close ties to information technology and policy.

Two panels of experts will address issues relating to policy and technology. The Policy Panel will feature: Ramsen Betfarhad, counsel, House Commerce Committee; Christopher Caine, Vice President of Government Programs at IBM; and Ed Young, Sr. Vice President, International and Federal Public Policy at Verizon. Judy Olian, Dean of the Penn State Smeal College of Business, will chair the policy panel.

The Technology Panel will include Caroline King, Vice President of SAP AG; Peter Samson, VP/General Manager of Enterprise Server Business Development at Unisys; Stanton Sloane, Executive Vice President for Management and Data Systems at Lockheed Martin; Richard Bard, Deputy Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and founder and manager of IdeaSpring, Inc.; and Fred Heller, Vice President and General Manager of Xerox.com. Jim Thomas, Dean of the Penn State School of Information Sciences & Technology, will chair the panel.

The fee for the conference is $395 per person for attendees who register before September 1, or $495 per person for attendees who register after September 1. The fee for attendees from the eBRC's corporate sponsors is $995 for 3 people.
