Global Outsourcing Topic Of May 4 ‘About Business’ Call-In Show

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (April 27, 2004) – The costs and benefits of global outsourcing is the topic of the next edition of “About Business,” a monthly call-in show hosted by Judy Olian, dean of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business and a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist.

Simulcast at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, on WPSU-FM, WPSX-TV, and online at http://wpsu.psu.edu/abusiness/, the show will feature Gerald Susman, professor of management and director of the Center for the Management of Technological and Organizational Change at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business; and Paul Clark, professor and head of the Department of Labor Studies and Industrial Relations at Penn State.

Exporting jobs to lower-wage economies such as India, China, and other developing nations is not new, but with employment lagging behind the economic recovery, especially among manufacturing and certain professional jobs; outsourcing has become a politically volatile topic.

On May 4, Olian and her guests on “About Business” will discuss both the costs and benefits of outsourcing. Viewers and listeners are encouraged to join in the discussion by calling (800) 543-8242 during the one-hour broadcast, or they can contact Olian and her guests during the program via e-mail sent to aboutbusiness@outreach.psu.edu.
