Muscarella Named As New Smeal College MBA Faculty Director

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (April 12, 2004) – Chris Muscarella, professor of finance at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business will assume the role of the MBA faculty director on July 1, replacing current faculty director J. Edward Ketz. The faculty director serves as academic leader and liaison to MBA faculty, portfolios, and immersion experiences.

Ketz, who has served as faculty director since 2001 and was a key contributor to the recent program renewal, will return to his position as associate professor of accounting.

“Ed has been tireless in his dedication to elevating the caliber of the curriculum and learning opportunities,” said Smeal Dean Judy Olian. “I am certain Chris will provide outstanding academic leadership to the program and continue the cycle of renewal that is an integral part of the program’s fabric by now.”

Muscarella, who holds the L.W. “Roy” and Mary Lois Clark Teaching Fellowship, has won eight Excellence in Teaching Awards from Smeal MBA students. His current research interests include underpricing of initial public offerings, limited partnerships, patents, and venture capital.

Prior to coming to Penn State, Muscarella was a senior financial economist with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., where he focused on insider trading and public policy issues.
