Smeal College Announces Recipients Of Alumni Society Awards
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (April 3, 2004) – The Alumni Society of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business honored six individuals for their extraordinary commitment to diversity and to the mission of the college during a ceremony on April 2.
- Undergraduate student Elizabeth Medina received the Student Diversity Award in recognition of her leadership role in the S.T.A.R.T. Conference.
- John Coyle III (’83) of Kimberly-Clark received the Alumni Diversity Award in recognition of his commitment to Smeal’s goal of being a diverse and mutually supportive community that provides a climate of sensitivity and respect.
- Davie Huddleston and Brian Rider (’93) of PNC Bank received the Corporate Diversity Award for their efforts in minority programs and the recruitment of minority students for internships and full-time positions.
- Brian Callahan (’95) of Merrill Lynch received the Alumni Service Award for his commitment to helping students through the Junior Core Honors mentoring program.
- Jill Leithner (‘87, ’96 MBA) received the MBA Distinguished Achievement Award for her professional accomplishments at Tektronix and her commitment to the Smeal MBA Program through her role on the MBA Alumni Advisory Board.
- Recipients of the Alumni Society Awards were nominated by their peers based on their exemplary professional accomplishment and humanitarian service.
The Smeal Alumni Society Board also presents other awards to outstanding alumni. The Emerging Professionals Award recognizes the career success and community service of alumni who have graduated from the college within the past 15 years, and the Board Sponsorship Award recognizes one outstanding Smeal graduating senior with demonstrated leadership in the Smeal College and outstanding scholarship, providing a travel and lodging stipend to attend the Alumni Society Board meetings over the course of two years following graduation. In addition, the Board Sponsorship Award pays for the recipient's membership fee for the Penn State Alumni Association during the sponsorship period.
