Smeal College Students Earn Diversity Awards
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- Smeal College of Business seniors won five of the eight student awards and scholarships presented at the annual Penn State Multicultural Resource Center awards reception on April 15, which also featured awards presentations to University faculty and staff.
Henry Calderon (Operations & Info. Systems Mgmt.) won the Inspiring Student Award, for the student who keeps a low profile and toils behind the scenes to make certain that student programs and/or organizations are successful.
Candice Isaac (Marketing) won the Academic Achievement Award, for the student who demonstrates initiative, perseverance, and the ability to overcome significant obstacles in attaining academic excellence.
Chris Thomas (Economics) won the Leadership Award, for the student who has provided outstanding leadership in an area of activity such as student government, social services, or mass media at Penn State.
Makini Young (Operations & Info. Systems Mgmt.) won the Volunteer Service Award, for the student who has given an exceptional amount of volunteer effort to on-campus or community service organization(s) and has made an important contribution.
Additionally, Gregory Jenkins (Operations & Info. Systems Mgmt.) earned a Fannie Lou Hamer / W.E.B. DuBois Service Scholarship from the Forum on Black Affairs.
The Penn State Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) provides professional counseling and educational services for African/Black American, Latino/Hispanic American, Asian & Pacific American, and American Indian/Alaskan Native undergraduate students, with a goal of helping students succeed and graduate from Penn State.
Each year, MRC recognizes graduating seniors (MRC students) who excel in many educational and extra-curricular aspects. In addition, MRC recognizes outstanding Penn State faculty and staff who demonstrate a commitment to diversity efforts beyond the responsibilities of their position.
