Alumni And Friends Invited To Smeal Events In New York And Pittsburgh
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (September 26, 2007) – Smeal College of Business events in New York and Pittsburgh are scheduled in the coming months to bring together the college's alumni and friends for socializing, networking, and learning about the latest initiatives of the college.
On Oct. 24, Smeal Dean James Thomas will be joined in Pittsburgh by Penn State alumna and Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Cynthia Baldwin '66, '74. Thomas will outline several of the new initiatives in place to make Smeal one of the top five public business schools in the nation.
The event gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at the Rivers Club at One Oxford Centre in downtown Pittsburgh.
On Nov. 6 in New York, Thomas will be joined by Penn State Executive Vice President and Provost Rodney Erickson and Smeal alumnus J. David Rogers '78, '80 M.B.A., chief executive officer of J.D. Capital Management. Several student managers of the college's $5 million Nittany Lion Fund will also be on hand at the event, which is part of the Smeal Wall Street Initiative.
Dean Thomas will lay out his plan to guide Smeal to becoming one of the top five public business schools and a teleconference link between New York and University Park will allow the student Nittany Lion Fund managers to showcase the stock portfolio and Smeal's state-of-the-art Trading Room.
The evening in New York will begin at 6 p.m. at The Princeton Club of New York at 15 West 43rd Street in Manhattan.
Each reception is an opportunity for alumni and friends to network with each other, connect with old friends and colleagues, and learn about ways to stay connected to Penn State and Smeal.
One such opportunity is participation in the Smeal Wall Street Initiative. The program connects Penn State alumni working on Wall Street with the goal of strengthening corporate relationships with the University, providing networking opportunities for alumni, and assisting students in pursuit of careers in New York's financial district.
