UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (October 8, 2009) – A recent survey of supply chain academics and practitioners published in Supply Chain Management Review has ranked the supply chain program at Penn State's Smeal College of Business among the top two such programs in North America.

Stanley E. Fawcett, Staheli Professor of Business Management at Brigham Young University, surveyed 102 leading supply chain faculty and 200 supply chain practitioners. Respondents ranked up to the top 20 supply chain programs based on faculty, research contributions, curriculum, reputation, and other factors.

The academic respondents collectively ranked Smeal's supply chain program No. 1, and the practitioners ranked Smeal No. 2. Overall, Smeal ranked No. 2 among all North American supply chain programs.

The Supply Chain Management Review report is an extension of a study first conducted in 1995 and then again in 2005. Smeal was ranked No. 1 overall in both of the prior rankings.

In June, Smeal's Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems was identified by AMR Research as having the best supply chain program in the United States in terms of industry value, program depth, and program scope. Smeal's supply chain program is also consistently ranked among the best such programs by U.S. News and World Report.
