Indian Official to Discuss Country's Role in Global Economy
Penn State's Smeal College of Business will host a talk on Wednesday by Daggubati Purandeswari, Indian Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education) for the government of India. Purandeswari will discuss the growing role and importance of India in the global economy at 1:15 p.m. in room 126 of Smeal's Business Building. The talk is free and open to the public.
Indian Official to Discuss Country's Role in Global Economy
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (October 12, 2009) – Penn State's Smeal College of Business will host a talk on Wednesday by Daggubati Purandeswari, Indian Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education) for the government of India.
Purandeswari will discuss the growing role and importance of India in the global economy at 1:15 p.m. in room 126 of Smeal's Business Building. The talk is free and open to the public.
While on campus, Purandeswari will also meet with Penn State faculty and University administrators. In addition to Smeal, she will visit the Dickinson School of Law and the Penn State World Campus.
Purandeswari was appointed to her current post in January 2006. Previously, as a member of the Indian parliament since 2004, she spearheaded initiatives in agriculture, higher education, public health, science, and technology. An articulate speaker, Purandeswari has been nominated to several international delegations representing India and has spoken at numerous conferences, including at the White House Symposium on Literacy in 2008, organized by Laura Bush.
The daughter of Indian actor N.T. Rama Rao, Purandeswari holds a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from SIET College in Chennai. She also holds a diploma in Gemology from the Gemological Institute of India in Mumbai, and founded the Hyderabad Institute of Gem and Jewellery.
