UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (October 12, 2006) – Two business magazines listed the MBA Program at Penn State's Smeal College of Business in their separate rankings of the top MBA providers released today.

Smeal is ranked ninth among U.S. public universities, according to the annual rankings published today by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research arm of The Economist magazine publishing group.

Smeal's position in the 2006 rankings is unchanged from last year.

The college is ranked 48th internationally and 26th overall in the United States, according to the EIU.

The annual Economist rankings are based on data provided by the schools and surveys of about 20,000 current students and recent graduates. Students rate their school according to its ability to further their career, provide professional development, increase their salary, and create networking opportunities.

BusinessWeek magazine included Smeal in its alphabetical listing of business schools ranked 31 to 38. The magazine's rankings only rank the top 30 schools in order. The next eight are then listed alphabetically and about 30 more schools are listed as "also considered."

The BusinessWeek rankings are based on surveys of recent MBA program graduates, surveys of corporate recruiters, and information provided by the schools. Surveys from the 2002 and 2004 BusinessWeek rankings are also included in the 2006 rankings. About 9,000 students and 200 recruiters responded to this year's survey.
