BusinessWeek, Economist Rank Smeal MBA Program Among Top 50

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (October 12, 2004)—The Penn State Smeal College of Business ranks among the top full-time MBA providers in the world according to recent rankings by BusinessWeek and the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Smeal’s MBA program is featured among the top 50 in the United States in the 2004 "Best B-Schools" issue, the latest edition of a report compiled every other year by BusinessWeek. As in the previous four MBA rankings from the publication, Smeal appears in an alphabetical list of programs from 31-50, tying for 10th among MBA programs offered by U.S. public schools.

"Penn State has a great MBA program. It completely changed me and my way of thinking," one graduate told BusinessWeek.

"The smaller class size fosters a sense of community and camaraderie while providing an opportunity to have a relationship with your professors and the career-management team," said another.

BusinessWeek bases its rankings on surveys of graduate satisfaction and corporate recruiters' perceptions of quality of graduates and overall corporate experience with the school. The magazine also rates the intellectual capital of the faculty.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) latest MBA rankings ranks Smeal 49th in the world and 31st among MBA programs in the U.S. Smeal is 13th among all U.S. public schools.

EIU’s rankings—published annually in the book "Which MBA?"—focuses on dimensions important to students when choosing a business school. EIU surveys current students and recent graduates on topics such as the ability of a program to open new career opportunities and the networking opportunities fostered by the school.
