Baumgartner To Lead Marketing Department
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (May 9, 2006)—Hans Baumgartner, professor of marketing at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, has been named interim chair of the college's marketing department, effective July 1.
Baumgartner, who also serves as Charles and Lillian Binder Faculty Fellow and director of Smeal's Ph.D. program, replaces Marvin Goldberg and will serve one year or until a permanent chair is identified.
"I'm delighted that Hans has accepted this position because his marketing background, academic experience and research expertise make him an ideal faculty member for leading the department during this transitional period," said Interim Dean Kenneth Lusht.
Baumgartner has been on the Smeal faculty since 1989, specializing in consumer behavior and research methodology. His marketing research is concerned with how consumers form judgments about objects and events and how these judgments influence actual behavior.
Methodologically, Baumgartner's research has focused on the use of structural equation modeling in marketing, cross-cultural measurement issues, and citation analysis.
Baumgartner holds a master's in business from the University of Innsbruck in Austria, an MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a master's in statistics and a Ph.D. in marketing from Stanford University.
