Sheehan Named Associate Dean For MBA Programs

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (May 13, 2005)—Dennis Sheehan, professor of finance at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, has been named associate dean for MBA programs at the college. He will lead the academic and operational aspects of Smeal's full-time MBA program at University Park and its executive MBA program in Philadelphia.

Sheehan, who joined the Smeal faculty in 1992 as the Louis R. and Virginia A. Benzak Professor of Finance, led the launch of the college's executive MBA program and has served as director since its inception in 2002. The 22-month program will graduate its second class of students in June.

"Dennis is a natural fit for this position," said Dean Judy Olian. "He has been a driving force behind the continued growth of our executive MBA program and has the perspective, creativity, and energy to lead the full-time program forward in its mission. Both MBA programs will benefit from Dennis' student-centered focus, and he will play a critical role in positioning Smeal for success in an increasingly competitive business education marketplace."

Sheehan succeeds F. Robert Wheeler, III as head of the college's internationally ranked full-time MBA program. Wheeler, who was named dean and director of the program in 2002, is stepping down to continue his pursuit of a Ph.D. in higher education policy at Penn State.

"We greatly appreciate Bob's leadership, deep dedication, and many contributions to the program and school during his tenure," Olian added.

Before coming to Penn State, Sheehan taught at Purdue University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Rochester. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree in economics from Georgetown University.
