BusinessWeek Ranks Smeal 14th Among Public Undergrad Programs, Sixth According To Recruiters

In its second annual ranking of U.S. undergraduate business programs, BusinessWeek magazine, has ranked Penn State's Smeal College of Business 14th among public schools, fifth in the Big Ten, and 36th overall nationally. In the recruiter survey, which accounts for 20 percent of the overall ranking, Smeal ranked sixth nationally. Recruiters were asked to identify the schools with the best graduates, most innovative curricula, and most effective career services.

May Memorial Set For Eugene Kelley, Smeal Dean Emeritus

Together with his family, the Smeal College of Business will host a memorial service in May for Eugene Kelley, dean emeritus of Smeal. Family, friends, colleagues, and former students of Kelley's are invited to attend the service at 10 a.m. on May 17 in the Helen Eakin Eisenhower Chapel on Penn State's University Park campus. A reception will follow at noon in the Paquerilla Spiritual Center's Garden Room. Kelley, a pioneering scholar in the field of marketing management, passed away Feb. 10 at age 84.

Smeal Executive Insights Series To Host Ernst & Young CEO James Turley

Penn State's Smeal College of Business will host James Turley, chairman and chief executive officer of the Ernst & Young global organization, on March 27 as part of the college's new guest speaker series, Leadership In Focus: Executive Insights. Turley will sit down on stage for a conversation with Smeal Dean James Thomas, who will pose questions submitted by students and faculty in the audience.

Economists at Penn State's Smeal College of Business and College of Earth and Mineral Sciences are testing whether futures markets can be used to accurately forecast the weather, and, so far, they've found the markets to be just as accurate as major forecasting services.

Smeal Instructor's Radio Talk Show Moves To Drive Time

"Speaking Confidentially," a State College-area radio program hosted by Kenneth Pasch, instructor in accounting and management at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, is moving to 8 a.m. on Wednesdays beginning March 28. The hourlong program, which Pasch started in September, airs on 970 WBLF-AM.

MBA Auction To Raise Funds For THON

The MBA Association at Penn State's Smeal College of Business will hold its fourth annual Smeal MBA Auction to Benefit THON at 7 p.m. on March 30 in the Atrium of the Business Building. The event will feature a silent and live auction for items including two Penn State-Notre Dame football tickets, autographed sports memorabilia, and the use of a beach house in South Bethany Beach, Del. All proceeds from the auctions will go to the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, which raises money for the Four Diamonds Fund to combat pediatric cancer.

Xerox Awards QMM Program A Third $25,000 Grant

The Xerox Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to Penn State's Quality and Manufacturing Management Program. It's the third time in three years that the foundation has made such a contribution to the program. A portion of each of the Xerox grants is used to recruit talented students into the QMM program as Xerox Fellows. The grants also provide scholarship support to current QMM students to attend the Lean Six Sigma seminar as a capstone to the MMM degree.

Smeal To Host 'Executive MBA Spotlight' Program In Philadelphia

The Penn State Smeal College of Business Executive MBA Program in Philadelphia is partnering with the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce in a new initiative, Executive MBA Spotlight, a program series created specifically for senior executives in the Greater Philadelphia region. The inaugural program, "Applying the Tools and Techniques of Leading Companies to Reach Your Leadership Potential," will be held on April 19 at 8 a.m. at the Union League of Philadelphia.

Smeal Advances In Latest U.S. News Ranking Of MBA Programs

Penn State's Smeal College of Business rose four spots to 34th overall and 17th among publicly supported business schools in this year's edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America’s Best Graduate Schools," out today. The publication also ranks Smeal sixth in the nation in the discipline-specific category of Supply Chain/Logistics.
