Panel To Educate Community About Implications Of Sweatshop Labor

Panel To Educate Community About Implications Of Sweatshop Labor

Four faculty members from Penn State's Smeal College of Business Administration are among the speakers at an upcoming program designed to educate the Penn State community about the deep implications that sweatshop labor and global trade have on the future.

The event, "We are the Future: A Discussion of How We Can Affect the Treatment of Our People While Maintaining Efficient Global Trade," takes place 7 p.m.-9 p.m., Thursday, April 19, in Heritage Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The panel members include: Philip L. Cochran, associate professor of business administration and director of the Center for the Study of Business and Public Issues; Vernis Welmon, Assistant to the Dean for Diversity Enhancement and International Programs; Jerome D. Williams, associate professor of marketing; and Andrew Bergstein, instructor in marketing.

The program will consist of an interactive discussion led by the panel, and the National Hispanic Business Association at Penn State and Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc are sponsoring it. The event's co-sponsors are the National Association of Black Accountants, the International Business Association, the Multi-Cultural Business Society, The Paul Robeson Cultural Center, and the Office of Student Activities in Smeal College.
