Hundreds of students from Penn State and other universities are gearing up to compete in a most unusual global competition: They will have just eight days to create innovative solutions to a mystery challenge using very limited resources, and to convey their results in a short video posted to YouTube. Called the Global Innovation Tournament, the competition is organized by the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) at Stanford University.

A faculty member at Penn State's Smeal College of Business has been called to testify before the U.S. Senate regarding pension funding during recessions. Ron Gebhardtsbauer, faculty-in-charge of Smeal's Actuarial Science Program, testified Oct. 29 before the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).
