UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (February 7, 2008) – Penn State's Smeal College of Business will host a conference this spring to bring together Penn State alumnae and businesswomen for networking, professional development, and the opportunity to share some of their career and life experiences with their fellow alumnae and current students.

Powerful Women Paving the Way: Penn State Celebrates Women in Business, sponsored by the Penn State Women in Business student organization, will be held March 27-29 on Penn State's University Park campus.

Attendees will hear perspectives from some of Smeal's most accomplished women leaders, gain issues-based insights and knowledge that can be applied to their professional and personal lives, and forge connections with other successful alumnae.

The conference opens with a welcome reception on March 27. On day two of the conference, two Penn State alumnae will offer keynote addresses: Joan Amble '75, executive vice president and corporate comptroller for American Express Co., and Michelle Austin '89, founder and owner of Fluidity Fitness.

Amble is responsible for all controllership finance functions across three major divisions at American Express. She has also worked as chief operation officer and financial officer for Capital Markets, a service business within GE Capital Services, Inc. Amble's presentation is entitled "Harnessing the Power of the Changing Workforce: Are We Ready?"

Certified by the American Council on Exercise, Austin has been quoted in leading fitness and fashion magazines including Elle, Fit, Fitness, Marie Claire, Muscle and Fitness, and Self, as well as in medical journals including the Food and Fitness Advisor of the Weil Medical College of Cornell University. Her presentation, entitled "Entrepreneurship in Today's Competitive Marketplace," will focus on various stages of entrepreneurship from idea conception to multimillion dollar business.

Day two of the conference will also feature a presentation on career customization by Anne Weisberg, director of talent at Deloitte, and breakout sessions on topics including "Handling Life Transitions," "Discovering Your Leadership Style," and "Marketing Yourself," among others.

The conference wraps up on March 29, with a talk from Penn State Distinguished Alumna Sue Paterno '62.
