Smeal Associate Dean Pens Newspaper Column, BlogUNIVERSITY PARK, PA (May 16, 2007) – Patrick Cataldo, associate dean for executive education at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, is the author of a new column appearing monthly in the Centre Daily Times and a blog on the newspaper's Web site, both of which are dedicated to helping readers to manage change in business and their careers. The first installment of the column "Thinking Ahead in Business" ran on May 6. In it, Cataldo identified some of the topics he'll be covering in months ahead. "Each month we'll take a practical look at real-world ways of dealing with the transitions and changes that confront us," Cataldo writes. "We will work from a foundation of actual experience, always taking the view that change, while presenting us with challenges, always offers us exciting new opportunities if we know how to seize them and make them work for us." Upcoming topics include successful career transitions, technology tips and techniques, leading in competitive markets, creating customer loyalty, evaluating your potential, managing across generations, and valuing differences. The column will appear in the Centre Daily Times' business section on the first Sunday of each month. The first edition can be found online at www.centredaily.com/216/story/87996.html. Cataldo's blog, which shares the name of his column, will "amplify, clarify, and add to the topics" covered in his column in a casual and dialogue-based format. "Anyone who wants to understand the nature of today's globally competitive work environment, who wants to make better career choices, or who seeks to be more productive and make a contribution as an employee, entrepreneur, or volunteer will find something to think about in these postings," Cataldo writes of his blog. His blog can be viewed at community.centredaily.com/?q=blog/642. At Smeal, Cataldo is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of executive education programs supporting the needs of international clients through Penn State Executive Programs, the executive education division of Smeal.
