Business Leaders Share 'Executive Insights' In New Smeal Program

Joseph Amado, vice president and chief information officer of Philip Morris USA, will be the first guest in a new program at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, which is designed to bring high-profile business leaders to the college to connect with students, faculty, and administrators. Leadership in Focus: Executive Insights kicks off on Feb. 23 with Amado, who is credited with reshaping Philip Morris' information technology culture to bring the company's IT resources more in line with its business needs.

In Memoriam: Robert W. Koehler, 1936-2007

Robert W. Koehler, associate professor emeritus of accounting at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, joined the Smeal faculty in 1963. For more than 40 years, "Bear," as he was known to friends and students alike, served Penn State and its students as one of Smeal's most beloved professors.

Smeal Ranks Among Financial Times' Top 25 U.S. MBA Programs

For the second year in a row, the MBA Program at Penn State's Smeal College of Business ranks 25th domestically on the Financial Times' annual ranking of MBA providers. The newspaper ranks Smeal 10th overall among U.S. public colleges and 43rd internationally.

W. L. Gore & Associates Awards QMM Program $10,000 Grant

W.L. Gore & Associates, manufacturer of GORE-TEX® fabric and thousands of other innovative products, has awarded a $10,000 grant to support Penn State's Quality and Manufacturing Management (QMM) Program, which is administered jointly between the College of Engineering and the Smeal College of Business. The Gore gift will be used primarily to recruit talented students into the QMM program as W. L. Gore & Associates Fellows through scholarship support. The remaining portion of the grant will be used to support the overall program.

Smeal Professor Elected To Board Of Leading Real Estate Organization

A Smeal College of Business real estate professor has been elected to the board of directors of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA), the leading worldwide academic organization in real estate, mortgage finance, and urban economics. Brent Ambrose, professor of real estate and Jeffery L. and Cindy M. King fellow in business, was elected to the board by the AREUEA membership and began his three-year tenure this month.

Philadelphia Stock Exchange Closing Bell Rings At Smeal

Smeal College of Business Dean Jim Thomas rang the closing bell of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange on Jan. 19 in Smeal's Trading Room on Penn State's University Park campus. At 4 p.m., Thomas signaled the exchange's closing by ringing an original Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive bell, which was donated to the Smeal Trading Room by alumnus Howard Trauger ’69, ’78 MBA, president of Schuylkill Capital Management LLC.
