Smeal Alum, Board Of Visitors Chair To Deliver Commencement Address

Martha B. Jordan '76, partner in the international law firm of Latham & Watkins LLP and chair of the Smeal Board of Visitors, will deliver the commencement address at this year's Smeal College of Business graduation ceremony, set for 1:30 p.m. on May 20 in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Garber Fund Grows Investment In DiamondBack Automotive Accessories

The Garber Venture Capital Fund, a $5 million student-managed fund at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, recently invested $25,000 of its $200,000 second investment tranche in DiamondBack Automotive Accessories, Inc., one of the fastest-growing pick-up accessory companies in the world. The capital, which is the second of two tranches in a Series B Preference Stock transaction, will be used to grow sales and expand the company’s marketing efforts nationwide.

Marketing Department Welcomes Top Scholars To Its Second Annual Research Camp

The Department of Marketing at Penn State's Smeal College of Business welcomes four leading marketing scholars on April 27 to share their latest research during its second annual marketing research camp. The camp begins at 8:30 a.m. in 124 Business Building. Each speaker will give an hour-long presentation on his research, followed by an in-depth discussion with the audience. There will be two presentations in the morning, and two more after lunch.

Shell Executive To Discuss Company's Efforts In Post-Katrina New Orleans

Andrew Seck, manager business planning & support and vice president for corporate affairs for a number of Shell Exploration & Production companies in the United States, will visit Penn State's Smeal College of Business on April 24 as a guest in the college's executive speaker series, Leadership in Focus: Executive Insights.

Meet The Dean Event Scheduled For Boston

An upcoming event in Boston will provide an opportunity for area friends and alumni of the Smeal College of Business to meet the college's dean and hear the latest news from Penn State and Smeal. Dean James Thomas will talk about some of the issues and trends currently affecting business and business education and share some of his vision for the future of the college. Penn State Provost Rod Erickson will introduce Thomas and discuss University-level news and developments.

Smeal Marketing Students Compete In Cadillac Case Competition

Four student teams from two sections of a Smeal College of Business consumer behavior class taught by Marketing Instructor Carolyn Todd recently took part in a case competition that required them to develop an integrated marketing plan for the Cadillac CTS 2008. This preliminary competition at Smeal was held to identify the winning marketing plan to be submitted in the national case competition sponsored by Cadillac Motor Company, EdVenture Partners, and Modernista, Cadillac's advertising agency.

Smeal Marketing Club Earns National Honors

The Penn State Marketing Association (PSMA), a student organization in the Smeal College of Business, recently won several national awards at the American Marketing Association's AMA International Collegiate Conference, held this year in New Orleans.

High School Students To Explore The Stock Market In Trading Room Summer Camp

Penn State's Smeal College of Business is hosting a resident and day camp this summer for high school students entering grades 10 through 12 who are interested in learning about finance and the stock market. "Stock Market Madness" will be held July 15 through 20 on Penn State's University Park campus. Campers will spend the week in Smeal's state-of-the-art Trading Room, learning the basics about financial management from Smeal finance professors and students.

Alumni Association Honors Two Smeal MBA Grads

The Penn State Alumni Association presented two graduates of the Smeal College of Business MBA Program with its Alumni Achievement Award, an honor for Penn State alumni who have achieved an extraordinary level of professional accomplishment by the age of 35. Alan M. Majewski '02 MBA, chief financial officer for Standard Steel, and Heath Mitts '96 MBA, vice president of corporate finance at IDEX Corp., were honored by the Alumni Association at a dinner on March 30 at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

Smeal, Omega Bank Partner On High School Financial Education Project

 Select high school students in 11 Central Pennsylvania counties served by Omega Bank will visit Penn State's Smeal College of Business this month to learn more about stock trading, explore the college's state-of-the-art Trading Room, and meet with students in the college's Peer2Peer Financial Counseling Project, a program that connects Smeal students with high school students interested in finance.

Smeal Senior Receives Mitte Foundation Honor

The Mitte Foundation today announced that Smeal College of Business senior Amy Weinstein has received the foundation's Circle of Excellence award. Weinstein was selected from among a group of 52 Mitte Scholars and Fellows at Smeal on the basis of her academic credentials and exemplary leadership, behavior, citizenship, and community involvement.
