UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (April 11, 2007) – The Penn State Marketing Association (PSMA), a student organization in the Smeal College of Business, recently won several national awards at the American Marketing Association's AMA International Collegiate Conference, held this year in New Orleans.
PSMA won more awards than any other chapter at the conference. For the second year in a row, the Smeal chapter won an overall Superior Collegiate Chapter award and Best Overall Exhibit for the tradeshow competition. The overall chapter award places PSMA among the top four AMA collegiate chapters in the nation.
PSMA was also recognized for their tradeshow exhibit as the Student's Choice and earned second place for its communication of chapter activities. Additionally, PSMA's case study entry was a semi-finalist in the case competition and the PSMA Web site was recognized as an honorable mention.
Members of the Smeal contingent in New Orleans were asked to be panelists for three different sessions on Leading Your Chapter to Success, more than any other college or university group. The chapter was also recognized for winning an AMA grant to support their community service efforts.
Smeal's contingent of 29 students was the largest in attendance at the annual conference, which brought together about 1,700 marketing students and their faculty advisers this year for three days of career and leadership training, networking, and social activities.
"The annual conference is a great networking and professional development opportunity for the PSMA," said Executive President Jamie Foust, a senior marketing major at Smeal. "Each year the conference provides a unique opportunity for the PSMA executive board and its top members to interact with other AMA collegiate chapters, reflect upon our great successes, and have fun together."
The Penn State Marketing Association is made up of students interested in pursuing careers in marketing. The club provides its members with networking opportunities and an outlet for professional and personal growth. It's one of the largest student-run organizations at Penn State and is recognized as one of the premier AMA collegiate chapters in the nation.
