Scandal Brings Shame To A Giving Family

J. Edward Ketz, an associate professor of accounting at the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University, said that by itself, "I'm not sure [the Rite Aid case] has any significance greater than the others." But he said that combined with Enron, WorldCom, Global Crossing and all the other instances of alleged corporate misdoings, Rite Aid takes on a greater role.

"I think there's a certain cynicism that has hit people," said Ketz, whose book, "Hidden Financial Risk," is being published this month. "To restore credibility, they want to see enforcement of the rules and the bad people getting punished."
