The National Association of Women MBA's is dedicated to enhancing the personal and professional development of graduate business women and promoting professional and social networking opportunities.
The WMBA is active in various aspects of the MBA Community. Throughout the year, many events are held to promote a supportive environment among the women of the Smeal MBA program. Some of their activities include:
- Meet and greet reception to welcome the women of the first year class
- Potluck dinner to kick off the school year
- Winery tour and tasting at the Mount Nittany Winery
- Officer elections
- Career Workshops with the Undergraduate Women in Business
- Welcome reception to greet women candidates for the MBA program during MBA Visitation Weekend
- Farewell dinner
- Past Corporate Speakers: Karen Quintos, vice president of Americas Customers Experience and SMB Operations Organizations of Dell Americas Contact Centers; Joan Amble, executive vice president and corporate comptroller for American Express; Martha B. Jordan, partner of the Los Angeles office of Latham and Watkins and former chair of Los Angeles Finance and Real Estate Department; and Liz Zlatkus, senior vice president of Hartford Life Insurance Company.

Class of 2010 Welcome Reception The WMBA officers gathered with staff and the members of the class of 2009 to welcome the ladies of the incoming class (2010). There were some icebreaker games organized by the WMBA and amongst the fun and games, the officers, staff and the students of both classes got a chance to get to know one another. The event ended with a Q&A session with topics ranging from women in business to events within the WMBA. |

Visitation Weekend We welcomed our new batch of prospective students on March 27, 2008. The ladies had a slight advantage over the men as they enjoyed the luxurious, delicious chocolate fountain as part of the NAWMBA association meet-and-greet. 220 and the current MBA students put together a fun weekend for the prospective students with events like the association reception, tours of the Smeal Building, as well as tours of Penn State's campus. |
| Women in the Workplace A group of Smeal MBAs spent a couple of hours discussing the context of "Women in the Workplace." Despite the female context of the session, a few brave male students contributed greatly to the session as well as Smeal MBA faculty and staff. Co-sponsored by the WMBA an Minority MBA organizations, the session was facilitated by Peggy Lorah from Penn State's Student Affairs Department. |

2008 WMBA Elections Night We elected our new vice president of communications on January 24, 2008. The election night was a big hit, with splendid decor and a great Indian sit down dinner, courtesy of the WMBA team of 2008. Marcela, WMBA president 2008, welcomed the new board members and Amy, our president for 2009, enthused us all with her energy and excitement for the year ahead. |

2007 WMBA Elections Night On February 1 in the Indian Pavilion restaurant in State College, the WMBA members got together to vote on the new leadership in the association and to pass the torch on to the class of 2008. Marcela Velez was elected as new president accompanied by five VP's, Jess Berger as vice president of alumni relations, Shwetha Shrivatsa as vice president of communications, Yan Zhang as vice president of finance, Krithiga Anantharaman as vice president of international affairs, and Kirsten Grenoble as vice president of recruitment. The event was a great opportunity for the members to participate in the future of the organization and to enjoy time together. |

Make Up for the Workplace On January 18, the WMBA community participated in a makeover event, where Jodie Vanderman, one of our first year members, walked us through proper skin care and wearing make up appropriate for the workplace. This event was an opportunity to relax and bond with fellow WMBA members while receiving useful tips |

National Association of Women MBAs Conference and Career Fair
From November 2-4, WMBA members attended the National Association of Women MBAs Conference and Career Fair at Washington University in St. Louis. We had a great time meeting women from other MBA programs and companies. The conference had excellent speakers and panels. Annual Winery Tour On November 16, we invited the Smeal MBA community to join the WMBA for our annual winery tour and wine tasting at Mt. Nittany Winery. Each participant had the opportunity to taste six local wines while enjoying chocolate and cheese. Some of the wines included the Tailgate Red and Nittany Mountain White. |

Amy Hsieh, President Amy is originally from New York City and moved to State College in fall 2007 to begin the MBA program. She graduated from NYU with a degree in organizational behavior and communications. Prior to Smeal, Amy worked as a client development manager at Direct Agents, Inc., an interactive advertising agency. She values creativity, diversity, and equality. She enjoys traveling, grande cuisine, event planning, and Broadway shows. Currently, Amy is pursuing portfolios in product and market development and corporate financial analysis & planning. Belinda Liu, Vice President, Finance Belinda is originally from New Hope, Pennsylvania. She finished her undergraduate studies in 2007 as part of Penn State's integrated Science BS/MBA program. Prior to Smeal, Belinda worked in clinical operations for a small biotechnology company that is developing a drug for autoimmune disorders. Amishi Patel, Vice President, Communications Amishi Patel is a computer engineer from Mumbai University. Priyanka Dwivedi, Vice President, Corporate & Alumni Relations Prior to joining Smeal, Priyanka obtained a master's degree in psychology from Delhi University, India, and worked in the area of training & development for about 3 years. Most recently, Priyanka worked for India's largest pharmaceutical company, Ranbaxy, as an officer in HR. Chao He, Vice President, International Affairs Originally from China, Chao attained her bachelor's degree in English there. She has also attained a master's degree in communications from the University of Montana. Prior to joining Smeal, Chao worked on international education projects for the Chinese government. Yea-Ling Lee, Vice President, Recruitment Yea-ling is from Taiwan. She earned her bachelor’s degree in science from National Taiwan University and her master's degree in science and international studies from The University of Tokyo. Before joining Smeal, Yea-ling was managerial assistant to CEO at Billion Electric Co. in Taiwan. At Smeal, Yea-ling will be focusing on corporate financial analysis & planning and product & market development.
