Penn State Smeal MBA Student Life

Pursuing your MBA is a fast-paced and rewarding experience that will challenge you intellectually. As a Penn State Smeal MBA student, you are part of a tight-knit community within a dynamic and supportive educational environment. From the people around you to the resources at your disposal, this is a place designed to further your development as a business leader.

The Smeal MBA Program attracts students from across the country and around the world. With an average class size of less than 80, the program is designed to help you forge deep and lasting connections within a community of diverse perspectives, cultural viewpoints, and business experiences. The morning Coffee Buzz, football tailgates, cultural celebrations, and many other events provide opportunities to get to know your fellow students beyond the classroom.

In the News: In October 2013, The Princeton Review named the Penn State Smeal MBA Program one of the best business schools in the nation, also placing it at No. 6 on the Most Family Friendly list and No. 10 on the Best Campus Environment list.

Collaborative Environment

Teamwork is a fundamental part of the Smeal MBA experience. During orientation in August, you will join a small team of other first-year MBA students and remain with that group before changing teams in the spring. As individual skills develop, you will learn to work together more effectively to complete a variety of group-based projects. Notable opportunities for collaboration during the program include the Executive Panel case competition at the end of the first year and the Applied Professional Experience (APEX) in your final semester of the program.

Getting Involved

The Smeal MBA Program features an active network of student-run organizations including student government—the MBA Association—and other groups focused on specific aspects of business. The Smeal College of Business and Penn State also offer numerous other ways to get involved, from speaker series like Executive Insights at Smeal to the nation's largest student-run philanthropy: THON.

Living and Learning in State College

As a top-rated town for academics, quality of life, and professional opportunities, State College offers an ideal setting to complete your MBA. Centrally located to a number of regional business hubs, you will have access to a vibrant nightlife, arts and cultural events, and ample recreation activities.
