MilitaryThe Penn State Smeal MBA Program promotes discipline, team orientation, and practical skill building much like the training that you have experienced in your military career. Our program is well-suited for students furthering their education during or following a military career.

Smeal participates in the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) "military-friendly" school program. We are also a member of, and listed on the Military MBA website. For those considering the Smeal MBA Program, we offer the following:

Eligibility

Any United States military personnel who have been on active duty within three years prior to applying are eligible for the Smeal MBA Program.

Application Fee

Your application fee of $65 will be waived. Simply contact us at smealmba@psu.edu to request the military fee waiver code.

Financial Support

We commit to making financial aid available to qualified military personnel who have transitioned from the service in the two years prior to enrollment with the Smeal MBA Program. The amount of support offered will be based on the criteria used for our merit-based awards of scholarships and assistantships.

New GI Bill and The Yellow Ribbon Program

Fully qualified U.S. veterans who have served on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001, and who wish to attend Penn State can have their Smeal MBA tuition costs covered, thanks to Smeal's participation in the U.S. Government Yellow Ribbon Program, part of the Post 9/11 GI Bill.

"Penn State recognizes the tremendous contributions being made by our servicemen and women and wants to ensure they have access to a Penn State education, regardless of their state of origin," said Brian Clark, director of Penn State's Office of Veterans Programs. Deferral

We will provide up to two years of enrollment deferral if your MBA plans are delayed by your military service.

Justin graduated from Binghamton University in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. After being commissioned through Officer Candidate Course, he completed an overseas deployment supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Communications Platoon Commander for Combat Logistics Battalion 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group.

James is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in Oceanography. He completed operational tours on USS HUE CITY (CG 66) as Supply Officer and USS PRINCETON (CG 59) as Food Service, Disbursing, and Sales Officer. He completed shore tours at Naval Air Forces (U.S. Pacific Fleet), Naval Supply Systems Command, and the Naval Inventory Control Point.

Renee graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in January 2001 with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. She served as an enlisted member of the New Jersey Air National Guard while pursuing her undergraduate degree. In 2004, She commissioned into the 108th Intelligence Squadron, part of the 108th Air Refueling Wing located at McGuire AFB, NJ. She was mobilized for two years in support of Operation Noble Eagle and performed two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. One tour was performed overseas where Renee led the Intelligence Watch Desk at the Joint Operations Center, Multi-National Corps-Iraq (MNC-1) Headquarters in Baghdad.

David graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Business Management. Upon completion of Officer Candidate School, he completed a sea tour aboard the submarine USS NEVADA (SSBN-733) as Supply Officer followed by a Naaval Acquisition Contracting Officer internship at Fleet Industrial Supply Center San Diego. His most recent sea tour was aboard the amphibious assault ship USS BOXER (LHD-4) as Logistics Readiness Officer.

Richard enlisted in The United States Marine Corps right out of high school back in 1999. After completing boot camp and radar repair school, he was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. After four years at MCBH, he opted to reenlist for another four years, but this time as a Marine Security Guard protecting American Embassies in Luxembourg, Kyrgyzstan, and Germany. While stationed in Hawaii and on The Marine Security Guard Program, he was able to finish out his bachelor's degree in business management at the University of Phoenix. He decided to leave the Marine Corps after the completion of his second enlistment in May 2008 with the intention of going on to study for an MBA at The Penn State Smeal College of Business.

Jonathan graduated in 2004 from the United States Naval Academy with a bachelor's degree in Physics. He went on to graduate from the Naval Nuclear Training Program and joined the USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757) in Groton, Connecticut. He completed two overseas deployments in the Middle East and one Arctic Expedition to the North Pole. While on board, Jonathan served as the Main Propulsion Assistant and the Assistant Weapons Officer.

Peter graduated from Connecticut College in 2003 with a Bachelors degree in Philosophy. In 2004 he received his commissioning through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. After completing his training at the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, GA, Peter joined the USS MAHAN (DDG 72) where he served as the Assistant Supply Officer, in charge of Disbursing, Food Service, and Sales divisions. Over 36 months he completed three operational deployments.
