Lion Partners

Most often, Smeal students relocate in order to take advantage of the wonderful opportunity of earning an advanced degree in business. Many students have families who accompany them and we realize the impact that such a move may have on them. Lion Partners is a new organization, whose intention is to welcome and provide support for partners and family members who come with Smeal students. We know what a huge leap of faith you are taking and feel that this program will help to bridge that gap.

This year has been a building process that has proved to be a unique experience for all of us. We have become an official Smeal College of Business group and are attempting to solidify our home in the school through a variety of different avenues. Socially, we have offered events such as a hike on Mount Nittany, monthly dinners, and a minor league baseball game. These family friendly events allow us to get together and talk to others who are in a very similar situation.

Lion Partners is hoping to make the transition for incoming students’ families as seamless as possible. We are hoping to have a resume book to put together to distribute incoming partners’ resumes throughout the community to assist with job placement. We are also making an effort to have one-on-one meetings with perspective students’ partners while your partner is involved in their interview process.

We have also coordinated with the other associations in the college, such as the MBAA and their annual Thanksgiving dinner. This yielded our first service project, as we collected food to donate to the Centre County Food Bank. As we become a stronger organization, we hope to be able to make a large contribution to our community through additional service projects.

Most importantly, we hope to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your adjustment to life in Central Pennsylvania. As an organization, we hope to offer what we, as partners, feel is necessary in order to make a smooth transition to life in Happy Valley. Penn State is a great place to be and we want to be able to share it with all of you!
