David Haushalter David joined Smeal in 2004 as clinical assistant professor of finance and the academic director of the Smeal Trading Room. Prior to joining Smeal he was an educational and corporate research associate with Susquehanna International Group and an assistant professor of finance at the University of Oregon. He has also taught at the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business. David was an equity options trader before pursuing his Ph.D. at Purdue University. His current research focuses on the determinants of corporate risk management policy decisions and on the market for private investments in public equity. |

Lou Gattis Lou returned to Smeal in 2004 as an assistant clinical professor of finance. He received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Penn State and went on to a 15-year career in corporate finance and investment management. In 1988, he joined IBM Federal Systems in Manassas, Virginia where he performed contract financial management, planning, and product pricing. He went on to work at Freddie Mac in Mclean, Virginia as director of market risk oversight. In this role, he was responsible for evaluating the financial risk of the corporation’s investment portfolio. He also performed financial forecasting and corporate planning. He also served as adjunct professor in finance and economics at George Mason University. Prior to joining Smeal, he served as a teaching professor in finance at the University of Maryland where he taught MBA courses in investment management, equity valuation, and financial modeling. Professor Gattis coordinates advising for finance students and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in multinational finance, financial derivatives, portfolio management, and financial modeling. |
