As a student in the One-Year MAcc Program, the opportunities to network with accounting professionals begin in April of the year you are admitted to the program. The placement process for a required spring internship launches at the start of your fall semester on campus. Most students secure a full time job offer from the firm at which they complete their internship.
An essential part of the program curriculum is a required spring semester internship. The internship must be accounting-related in order to qualify. A dedicated MAcc Program adviser will assist you as you explore options for placement and encourage you to make the most of campus recruiting events.
Opportunities to Connect
In addition to the spring semester internship, Smeal offers many opportunities to connect with employers including:
- Executive Insights: Smeal's signature speaker series, which brings top corporate speakers from around the globe to campus to discuss leadership topics with students, faculty, and staff. Past speakers include executives from Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and KPMG.
- Career Fairs: There are a number of opportunities throughout the academic year to connect with recruiters. Each fall, professional accounting organization Beta Alpha Psi hosts Meet the Firms, a career fair and networking event specifically geared toward students interested in accounting internships and jobs.
- Networking Events: At the beginning of the fall semester, the Accounting Department and the MAcc Program Student Assocation (MPSA) host the MAcc Kickoff Event. Representatives from many employers, including the Big Four, attend and network with students in an informal setting.
Additionally, students have access to a number of resources at Smeal and across the University where they can find information on internship and job opportunities and career-related events.
