Information on Applying to the One-Year MAcc Program

Offers of admission are conditional upon satisfactory completion of remaining undergraduate coursework (including coursework equivalent to a specified sequence of Penn State undergraduate accounting courses) and obtaining a bachelor's degree before entering the One-Year MAcc Program.

The One-Year MAcc Program requires students to complete an internship during the spring semester of the program.

All applicants should understand that the admissions process is highly competitive. The Accounting Department at Smeal bases acceptance decisions on:

  • Undergraduate record with particular emphasis on courses that are indicators of aptitude for a rigorous accounting program
  • GMAT scores (unless you are a current Penn State student with an SAT score on file)
  • Essay(s) to be submitted in application
  • Resume to be submitted in application
  • Two professional or academic references, included in application
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • In addition, the department may require applicants to successfully complete an exam testing basic accounting knowledge

In order to be eligible for the One-Year MAcc Program, international students must currently (AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION) be an F-1 visa holder.

Please have two copies of your official transcript sent to:

Current or past Penn State students seeking a reference letter from a faculty member in the Smeal College of Business should ask the faculty member to obtain an alternate evaluation form from Lara Jackson. The applicant should, in all cases, continue to list the references in the application online.

GMAT and TOEFL scores are only accepted if they sent by the testing organizations directly to the University. DO NOT send copies of your scores to us. Also, do not send financial information unless you are accepted into the program as we request that information.

Applications are processed and offers of admission are extended on a rolling basis until the class is full. The deadlines to apply are listed below. Offers of admission are valid for 60 days. To accept an offer, you must pay a non-refundable tuition deposit.
