Rick Janac

This page presents information on Rick Janac.

Rick Janac

Janac recently completed his fifth season with Curve Baseball LP in 2006 and his first as the general manager of the Curve’s sister franchise, the State College Spikes. He also serves as the senior director of marketing for both the Curve and Spikes. Under his leadership, the Spikes enjoyed an outstanding inaugural season playing at  Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on the campus of Penn State University. The club finished fifth in the fourteen-team New York-Penn League in average attendance, drawing over 3,800 fans per game.

Prior to his appointment as State College GM in May 2005, Janac was the Altoona Curve’s assistant general manager since joining the franchise prior to the 2002 season. During his tenure with Altoona, the Curve have won numerous national awards including the Larry McPhail Trophy for the top promotional team in Minor League Baseball and most recently the John H. Johnson Award, given annually to the best overall minor league franchise.

In addition to handling the day-to-day operations for the Spikes, which includes working closely with Penn State University as part of the unique operational agreement between Curve Baseball LP and the University, Janac oversees the sales, marketing, and merchandising efforts for both the Spikes and Curve.

The graduate of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, has been in baseball each of the last 10 seasons. Prior to his work with the Altoona Curve, Rick spent one year with the Triple-A Phoenix Firebirds (1997) and four with the High Desert Mavericks (1998-2001). Rick was named vice president and general manager of the High Desert Mavericks in 2000 and served in that capacity through the 2001 season. In that time period the Mavericks broke sponsorship sales records, increased home attendance and signed an affiliation agreement with the Milwaukee Brewers.
