Nomination Process for New At-Large Directors
All members of the Smeal Alumni Society may nominate alumni for consideration to serve as an At-Large Director. At least 60 days prior to an election, alumni who would like to be considered as candidates to serve as an At-Large Director, and who are not currently serving as a Director of the Board, may submit a self-nomination document to include a letter of interest, resume, and one letter of support, to Smeal’s Director of Alumni Relations. The Spring 2014 election is planned for March 27.
The Board’s Executive Committee will review all submitted nominations and review the eligibility and activity of the nominees. The Executive Committee will consider service to Penn State, with an emphasis on quality of service to Smeal as a volunteer for at least two years.
If exactly one seat is open, the Executive Committee may make final nominations of up to four candidates. Otherwise, the names of no more than double the number of Board positions to be filled for election will be provided by the Executive Committee to the Board. The Board will discuss all final candidates before a closed vote. All members of the Smeal Alumni Society will thereafter be informed of the names of the new Directors.
The Dean of the Smeal College of Business may appoint an At-Large Director each year, provided that Dean appointments do not collectively exceed three At-Large Director positions at any given time.
