The Smeal Graduate Distinguished Achievement Award honors alumni whose career achievements have brought distinction to themselves and Smeal, and whose commitments of time, talent, or resources have been key to enhancing the prestige of Smeal.

2012 Award Recipient: David Ketchen '88 Marketing, '94 Business Administration

Ketchen is the Lowder Eminent Scholar, professor of management, and executive director of the Lowder Center for Family Business and Entrepreneurship at Auburn University. Ketchen has published six books and more than 100 articles in scholarly journals. His work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and a variety of other newspapers. Ketchen is the former chair of the board for Alabama Launchpad, a statewide competition among startup businesses, and he recently helped Michelin – North America distribute $2 million in job creation loans. Ketchen serves on the teaching team for the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities at Florida State University, has acted as an expert witness, and has assisted a variety of organizations with strategic planning.
