Alumni Society Board of Directors
The mission of the Smeal Alumni Society Board is to enhance the value and reputation of Penn State and Smeal by: cultivating a community of active, engaged alumni; building and maintaining forums for student and alumni interaction and providing a meaningful connection between the College and alumni.
The Smeal College Alumni Society Board of Directors governs the activities of the Alumni Society. At-large members may serve three consecutive three-year terms. The board also includes a revolving roster of ex-officio members representing the students, faculty, and administration of the college.
The board undertakes programs to enhance the reputation and diversity of the college and represents alumni interests to administrators, faculty, and the public. These programs include:
- A Mentoring Program with Current Students
- An Awards and Recognition Program
- Financial support through its scholarship program and individual philanthropy

Committees
- Mentoring—develops and manages mentoring and career coaching programs to connect alumni with students and each other; develops liaisons between alumni and faculty for cooperative research and classroom ventures.
- Web Connectivity and Communications with Students—develops alumni profiles on Smeal Student Portal; develops online message board for students to connect with alumni.
- Alumni Admissions Volunteers—works in partnership with the Undergraduate Admissions Office in assisting with the recruitment and yield enhancement of prospective students.
- Business and Community Relationships—orients volunteers to the goals of the Society Board and assures that they are actively and meaningfully engaged; oversees new and existing business and affinity clubs to assure that they serve the needs of alumni, students, and faculty.
- Awards Program—recognizes Smeal alumni who have made significant contributions in their careers and communities.
- Strategic Plan—reviews, critiques, and provides guidance to the dean on Smeal's strategic plan; generates ideas on ways to encourage students to develop on-going relationships with Smeal; determines opportunities for students to electronically connect with Smeal to gain important information related to their college experience.
