J. Lloyd Huck, ’43, joined Merck & Co. in 1958 where he became president and chief operating officer. He retired in 1986 as chairman of the board. He received the status of Trustee Emeritus of the Penn State Board of Trustees, having served three consecutive terms as president of the board. He and his wife, Dorothy, have endowed chairs in the College of Health and Human Development, the University Libraries, and the Hershey Medical Center.
Mr. Huck graduated from Penn State in 1943 with a degree in chemistry. After joining Merck & Co. in 1958, he rose through the ranks to president and chief operating officer before retiring as chairman of the board in 1986. Mr. Huck received the status of Trustee Emeritus of the Penn State Board of Trustees, having served 15 years including three consecutive terms as president of the board.
He has also served as president of the Alumni Association and the University named him a Distinguished Alumnus. Mr. Huck has chaired the Campaign for the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, served as a committee member of the Campaign for the Library and chaired the leadership committee for establishing the Biotechnology Institute.
