Alvin H. Clemens, ’59, is chairman and CEO of Health Benefits Direct Corporation. HBDC is a company engaged in selling health and life insurance via the Internet. He was also the founder, chairman, and CEO of Academy Insurance Group, chairman and CEO of Provident Insurance Group, and chairman and CEO of HealthAxis. He was named an Alumni Fellow at Smeal and endowed a Professorship of Entrepreneurship to the Smeal College of Business.

Mr. Clemens graduated with a B.S. in Business Education from The Pennsylvania State University in 1959 and continued with graduate work at San Diego State School of Business Administration. He is a member of various organizations including Who's Who in America, Who's Who International, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in the World, Young Presidents Organization, Philadelphia President's Organization, World Presidentв's Organization, Aronimink Country Club and The Pyramid Club.

His board memberships include The Board of Trustees at Penn State, The Smeal College of Business Board of Visitors, the Penn State Great Valley Advisory Board, and The Pennsylvania Insurance Federation Executive Committee and Board of Directors. He was appointed by former Governor Ridge to The Banking and Insurance Transition Team and is Co-Chairman of the Pennsylvania IMPACCT Commission on Banking and Insurance. Mr. Clemens is also a member of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Expansion Advisory Committee.
