Smeal Alumni and Friends,
It is difficult to believe another semester has come and gone in Happy Valley. The full heat of summer hasn’t quite hit us yet, but the Business Building is buzzing with summer session classes. We’re also getting lots of visitors, as New Student Orientations bring incoming Penn Staters and their families to tour our campus and learn more about the place they’ll spend their next four years.
We’re still beaming with pride over all of our class of 2013 graduates! We were fortunate to welcome alumna Liz Zlatkus ’81 as the commencement speaker at our Smeal College of Business commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 5, where more than 1,100 students crossed the stage to receive their diplomas. Here are some details on our other commencement ceremonies and celebrations:
- Before the big day, we welcomed our class of 2013 undergraduates and their families into the Business Building Atrium for our traditional Senior Sendoff Celebration.
- The class of 2013 MBA graduates—about 80 students—welcomed alumnus William C. Lane ’75 as the speaker at their pre-commencement ceremony on April 27, then received their diplomas alongside several Ph.D. graduates from Smeal at the Graduate School commencement ceremony on May 5.
- Our graduates from the Integrated Master of Accounting (MAcc) program were particularly busy—they attended the Smeal College of Business commencement on the morning of May 5, a MAcc ceremony in the Business Building Atrium at noon, and the Graduate School commencement ceremony that afternoon.
- And, last but not least, our Philadelphia-based Executive MBA Program will graduate its class of 2013 on June 15.
Although the spring semester is over and we have a couple of months until tailgating season, there’s a lot to look forward to this summer at Smeal. Visit our website to keep up with what’s new, and join us on social media. Also, please reach out to us if you’d like to get involved—there are many ways to do so—in the life of the college. We look forward to hearing from you!
