Dear Smeal College Alumni and Friends:
It’s hard to believe we are nearing the end of another calendar year, but this fall’s commencement ceremonies are less than a week away. More than 250 students will join all of you as alumni of the Smeal College of Business. The undergraduate ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 21, in the Bryce Jordan Center, and our traditional Senior Sendoff to celebrate these students’ accomplishments will be held the Friday before.
2013 has been another successful year here at Smeal. Earlier this year, our Penn State Smeal MBA Program was noted for ethics, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. The program was also named one of the best business schools in the nation by The Princeton Review, where it was also lauded for its campus environment and family-friendly atmosphere.
Across the college, we continue to enjoy great success in connecting graduates with jobs. The One-Year Master of Accounting Program graduated its first class of students with a 100 percent placement rate by graduation, and our Integrated MAcc Program reported rates upward of 95 percent. Our Ph.D. Program and Nittany Lion Fund have also reported 100 percent placement. (See three Nittany Lion Fund students talking about stock performance on the FOX Business show Money with Melissa Francis.)
Finally, we have made much progress in our mission to become University leaders in sustainability: our Penn State Smeal MBA Program has added an official concentration in Sustainability and Social Innovation, and we’ve incorporated additional curricular options for undergraduates looking to explore sustainability in business as well. In addition, a recent conference united faculty and doctoral students from across the University to explore new avenues for research in sustainability.
I want to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season. As 2014 approaches, I encourage you to connect with us and with each other. Stay up-to-date on upcoming events and lifelong learning webinars as well as recent news through our website and social media channels. And if you’d like to get involved, there are many ways to do so. We look forward to hearing from you.
